THE WOUNDED HEALER MANIFESTO
Recently, I ran across a personality test online. You know, the usual Myers-Briggs type of test.
But unlike other personality tests I'd seen, it had values assigned for each personality type.
Honestly, I'm still not quite sure what my Myers-Briggs personality type is, just because I've changed so much over the years. But, it's of no consequence, because I endied up just being inspired by the words themselves, which were:
--> TRUTH, BEAUTY, & PURPOSE <--
What qualities, right?! And then I got to thinking, If The Wounded Healer were a person, would it have these qualities?
So here is the result of my ponderings: A manifesto of sorts - for The Wounded Healer Facebook group.
Truth is a guiding principle of The Wounded Healer, because the aim of this group is to the tell the truth, AND to NOT feel shame about the things we cannot help. This is because shame is NOT the TRUTH. Whether we have an illness, whether we are facing financial difficulty, whether we are facing a Dark Night of the Soul, such as a death or a divorce, or accident – we are NOT going to beat ourselves up about it, feel shameful, OR let others tell us “we brought it on ourselves by not being spiritual enough.”
We REJECT the assertion, that we should be shameful about our Truth. The Truth is, that we are doing the best we can. Sometimes things happen in life. Instead of flagellating ourselves, and spiraling further into depression, anger, or denial, we are going to find the LESSON in our setbacks. We will find the TRUTH of what we CAN do, and BE, to GROW from our adversity.
Adversity doesn’t make us ‘bad people,’ who are 'un-spiritual,' adversity makes us superheroes, who rise to the occasion.
Here in The Wounded Healer, we know that we did not cause these circumstances in our lives by the Law of Attraction, or any other ‘spiritual’ flaw. Acceptance as a practice, means it’s ‘okay’ to experience discomfort. Discomfort is a gift, that allows us to appreciate the things in our lives that are comfortable. Discomfort wakes us up - helps us to make needed changes.
At the same time, as Wounded Healers, it’s important not to dwell on our hardships. To admit a hardship, is not to admit defeat. It is simply telling the Truth. Sometimes, despite the fact that we are facing adversity, we are still happy.
To deny our Wholeness, and happiness, despite our circumstances, such as illness, is also a lie. Happiness and illness are not mutually exclusive.
The TRUE SPIRIT of the Law of Attraction, Mindset, and New Age spirituality is non-judgement.
Beauty, is a guiding principle because there is SO much Beauty in this world, and we cannot forget it because of the problems we face. We are GRATEFUL for each other’s company, seeking what UNITES us, not what divides us.
We are grateful for the health and abilities we do have, and choose to focus on the BEAUTY of that. We do the best we can, with the tools we’ve been given. We don’t give up. Having COURAGE, stepping forward despite fear, shame and defeat, is beautiful. Collecting your dignity, and your sorrow, fluffing it back up again, and facing another day, is beautiful.
How can we appreciate or create Beauty in our lives, right now, exactly as we are?
Everyone can agree, that living your life with PURPOSE, is a goal to be strived for. But how does one find their purpose? What makes a life meaningful? Doing Inner Work is a good way to work towards a purposeful life that we love.
After all, it’s the choices and priorities we make each and every day, that define us. Our choices either leave us feeling like victims in our lives, or - empowered.
Now, some people may think, “But I don’t have a choice. I got this illness or condition, or xyz happened to me, and I didn’t have a choice about that. I cannot UNCHOOSE it, so how am I making a choice?”
Well, this is a good point, and yes, there is some validity in that, in that, we DON’T get to choose our illnesses, or some of the downright awful & unfair things that can happen to us in life. But our POWER lies in where we DO have a choice. There is ALWAYS a choice for expansion, beauty, and purpose. This choice I’m talking about is ALWAYS bigger, it feels better, and is more filled with love.
Here at The Wounded Healer, we find meaning through spirituality and spiritual practices, whatever they may be. We believe that an individual must find what brings THEM purpose, rather than any ‘purpose’ being proscribed.
Living a Purposeful life, is about living the most beautiful version of ourselves. What’s important is examining our beliefs and motivations and seeing if they set us free. If our beliefs and choices do NOT set us free, then we can consider changing them so that they line up with the type of life we want to live and the values that we have as a person.
It is then that we can say, we are living life, ON PURPOSE.
Big big love, Kai x
