I HAVE AN EYE TWITCH. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
THE BODY AS DIVINATION TOOL
If you found yourself trying to remember 'what your eye is trying to tell you,' or if you have interest in divination, or intuitive development, or proper psychic boundaries, then this article is for you. We are going to discuss, the Body as Divination tool. Or, what happens when we interpret the meaning of things like eye twitches, as is a popular a practice in New Age culture.
As a Tarot reader, I’m familiar with divination systems, and also communicating with guides, spirits, Angels, and ancestors. What gives a Divination system it's meaning, is your decision to use it, not necessarily the pop culture meaning of an eye twitch. In other words, if you don’t assign meaning to an eye twitch, then an eye twitch is not very significant at all.
I’m also here to ponder the question, SHOULD we really be using our fragile & finite human bodies to receive messages in the first place?
if so, how often should we be receiving those messages? All day every day? Only from 8-2pm? Send me narcolepsy while I’m driving, I don’t care? - In other words, I’m open to any message, at any time?
Every intuitive knows that it’s important to establish boundaries with spirits, Spirit, and with random sensations such as Clairsentience. Do we want to be empathically ‘reading’ our friends 24/7? Do we want to know personal details of strangers lives randomly? Setting parameters around one’s Intuitive Gifts is very important, not to mention, ethical.
THE TREND OF POP-CULTURE-BODILY-SENSATION-DIVINATION
So what are the proper boundaries we should be thinking about, with this trend of pop-culture Divination that has been sweeping the world of Woo?
And if you dooo really want to use eyeball twitches as a form of spiritual communication, then I’m going to outline in this article, a few ways that you can do so more safely.
Afterall, our intuition is a powerful tool. Like all powerful tools, it must be utilized properly.
You don’t want to expose yourself to actual REAL medical problems, because you don’t have control of your intuition. And you don't want to literally invite bodily problems in, by your practice of assigning meaning to bodily sensations.
So let me help you get better control of your ‘messages’, so you know the difference between an eye twitch that’s telling you your future, and an eye twitch that is simply muscle fatigue.
The reality is that although you may think getting ‘intuitive hits’ at random through eye twitches makes you ‘extra spiritual,’ to me, as a professional Tarot reader, a spiritual coach, and as someone with an Illness, unsolicited intuitive body-hits, signify that you are not controlling your intuition properly.
Simply put, your guides should not be communicating with you by sending random illnesses and bodily sensations to you throughout the day. It’s not prudent, nor practical, nor cute.
The example used above, getting narcolepsy while driving, would not be helpful because we need to be awake while driving. Sure, we got the message, but at what cost? It's important to be very clear with our boundaries while using our intuition, especially if you are naturally empathic.
Note: This article is not meant to address channeling, possession, or mediumship, rather, the common pop culture practice of New Age messages through one’s body.
HOW YOUR SPIRITUAL TEAM
SENDS YOU MESSAGES
Once your guides know, that you believe in numerology or Angel numbers, for example, they will make efforts to send you more numbers, and soon, you will receive many number messages. Enjoy. There is a wide database of meanings you can actually find on the internet, and this becomes a simple way for your guides to get your attention and to relay information to you. Sacredscribes.com is a popular website for this, as is Doreen Virtue’s book, Angel Numbers. Those sources are a handy reference, along with basic Numerology, to use for the purposes of receiving intuitive ‘hits.’
There are two ways to inform your guides that you want to communicate with them through a certain system:
- Tell your guides/God/gods/etc directly, while in prayer, meditation, or ritual, the method of communication you would like them to relay messages through.
- Simply become a fan of a Divination system long enough, and your Spirit beings will notice on their own. Simply studying and paying attention to a certain system will signal to your guides that you are open to receiving messages in that system, unless you specify otherwise.
Like to use augary? Augary is believing that the animals around us can bring us messages. See 3 ravens flying to the left, that means something if you believe in Augary. Many people become adept at reading the Animal Signs in their lives, and when they do, their guides notice this, realize this is a GOOD way to send you messages, and so they send you more animals. Simple as that 😊. Ted Andrew's book, Animal Speak is wonderful for learning about augary.
Believe in synchronicity? If you are a person that believes in sychronicity, you will put more stock in phrases and words that come up seemingly ‘randomly’ and more often in your life. If you hear a word or phrase more than once in a short period of time, and particularly if you’ve asked or are needing guidance on a certain topic during that time, that is synchronicity in action. If you believe in synchronicity, you will receive more sychronistic messages because your guides know that you will hear those messages. Your belief and decision to use synchronicity will send more synchronicity. Simple as that.
And obviously, if you believe in the Tarot, you are going to receive messages through the Tarot. (Arguably, even if you don’t believe in the Tarot, the messages are still present in a reading).
The difference between before we received all these messages & after, is that we are listening for them. It’s our decision & intent, to use a certain system, that gives that system meaning to us, and ALLOWS us to HEAR the messages contained in it. If we are not listening, then we can get all the messages we want, but we won’t ‘hear’ them.
Even with the Tarot, think back to when you were a child. Perhaps, if you came from a Christian family, they didn’t believe in Tarot and so it was disregarded as ‘evil.’ You wouldn’t have been so open to messages coming through that channel, so your guides would simply choose another channel. Like your preacher on Sunday for instance.
Even if you were raised with the Tarot as a child, sometimes we can go through phases where we rebel against what our parents like. If our parents believe in Tarot & we are rebelling against them, we are not likely to receive messages through Tarot at that time. We’d be more likely to receive another type of guidance, such as synchronous message from our friends possibly. Or, if we are very rebellious, and cut off from our Spiritual Being completely, it’s possible to receive NO messages at all, because we are simply too far away, our consciousness is not open to the Spiritual world at that time.
You see where I’m going here?
EVERYTHING is a divination system.
Dan Pelletier, in his interesting & helpful audio about Tarot & pruning rose bushes, agrees. He teaches that literally EVERYTHING can be used for divination. Even toothpicks. (That’s called throwing lots). And back in the day, our ancestors read sticks, and bones.
It makes no matter, if you are reading bones, or sticks, or Tarot, or animals, or synchronicity, or numbers. You are going to get your message because you are OPEN to receiving them. It’s our awareness & our intent that makes the difference.
ARE 'MESSAGES FROM OUR BODIES,'
In the New Age community, there’s a trend where people are reading into bodily sensations, as if they contain messages from Spirit / the Spirit world. These messages are seen as an auspicious spiritual communication, and something that should be listened to. Sounds like Divination, does it not?
Let’s check out the definition of the word, Divination:
DIVINATION: 1 : the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers. 2 : unusual insight : intuitive perception. [Miriam Webster].
You could call a bodily sensation an omen, could you not? And believing that this bodily sensation is sent by the Divine to inform us is the same as ‘by the aid of supernatural powers.’
So yea – This New Age-pop-culture-bodily-sensation trend IS Divination.
Bodily sensations are actually a form of divination called clairsentience. Clairsentience means, clear feeling. You can receive clairsentient information in the form of bodily ailments, bodily sensations (such as an eye twitch), stomach aches, sweaty palms, instant anger, hair standing up on the back of your neck, and feeling sick. [Intuitive Journal . com]
While Claisentience is one of the clairs, and a way of receiving psychic information that I personally find useful, there are proper ways to set a ‘container’ or boundaries for its use. You don’t want to randomly feel like you have the flu all day, do you? You don’t want to be having a great day, and then suddenly be taken over by extreme anger, do you? You don’t want to be struck down with symptoms of neurological issues such as balance problems and falls, numbness, or inability to walk or speak, do you?
While an eye twitch may be cute, and may make you feel like you are very wise and oh-so-Spiritually-deep, other body sensations, like falling & vertigo are not so fun or cute to experience. Leaving ones’ psychic boundaries open 24/7 leaves you open to experiencing unpleasant and intense physical sensations.
If you are uninformed or not using proper psychic boundaries, and have given your guides the ‘go-ahead’ to receiving intuitive messages through the medium of your body, you may not even realize that your medical condition or bodily sensation could simply be nothing but sloppy intuitive boundaries.
Your bodily sensation may mean nothing except you were sitting next to someone with carpal tunnel, and that made your wrist hurt empathically.
It is unwise to receive unsolicited or solicited intuitive messages with ones’ body. There are simply thousands of other, better, ways to receive intuitive guidance.
Pyromancy, bibliomancy, cartomancy, radiesthesia, chiromancy…..well….you see my point. Pick a method, any method. The whole world is out there – to be Divined with – have at it. [Wiki article on Methods of Divination]
Choosing to use your fragile, finite human body as messenger, and basically literally asking your Guides to send you illnesses and weird bodily sensations, is just, in my opinion, a really, REALLY, bad idea.
HOW & WHEN
TO USE CLAIRSENTIENCE SAFELY
I’m not knocking using Clairsentience. However, people should use this Gift properly & have respect for this ability. There need to be limits on the proper times and places that you receive Clairsentient messages.
In daily life, your intuition should be turned ‘off.’ The proper time to receive Clairsentient messages is when you have opened up for an official session, or you have specifically solicited for answers via Clairsentience. You can also set limits on the type of information you are willing to receive through your body.
For instance, I have a deal with my guides, that I’m not to receive messages through pain, bodily discomfort, bodily sensations, headaches, crying, sadness, anxiety, nausea, dizziness, vision loss, hearing loss, or ear ringing – unless I’m in a formal session with a client.
While I do find being open to the emotions of others in my daily life useful (which is a form of clairsentience), I do NOT find it useful or prudent to be open to bodily sensations in my daily life. The only time I am open for bodily sensation messages, is during a formal session with clients.
DO AS YOU WILL
While the world is a free place, and you can simply do as you please and it’s not my business, I DO want to remind you that there are much better ways of receiving messages. Like Tarot, like oracles, like animal signs, like any and all and then some of the known Divination methods. [Wiki article]
Further, there are certain methods of spirit communication that are simply not appropriate from any type of spiritual being. These are things such as waking me up with nightmares, sending random Tarot customers in the middle of the night freaking out calling me, or sending spirits to ‘short out’ my computer, my expensive watch, or my car. All those methods of ‘communication’ are disruptive, expensive, and not necessary. So why would we use our own precious body for spiritual beings to ‘short out’ to communicate – is just beyond me.
While yes, I ‘get’ the message that they are there, it’s simply not convenient for me as the messagee to constantly have to replace expensive equipment such as computers, cars and watches, or even to have to run around constantly replacing lightbulbs. Divination with our body should be viewed in the same manner.
This is the reason we set spiritual boundaries for intuitive guidance. We, as messagee, get to set the proper guidelines for spirit communication, not the other way around.
Simply put, if you ask your spiritual team to only communicate with you through numbers, they’re gonna use the shit out of numbers for ya.
If you prefer smells, or clairaudience, well, you guessed it, they’re going to use those channels. You put the limits on spirit communication of any kind. You get to spell out how/when/where & why it happens.
Don’t know how to do that? Let me give an example.
Simply state, ‘Hi! Thank you so much for wanting to communicate with me, that’s awesome of you. But, moving forward, do not send me messages through my computer, car, workplace, or dead animals. You can send me messages via: Numerology, Tarot, Synchronicity, Oracle cards, or Augary from the hours of 8-2pm daily. Thank you so much!’ Then continue your normal prayer or meditation. It’s very simple. Be firm, direct, specific and most important of all – know that it is done. No need to dwell or worry if they received the message – they did. And if a spirit does not want to heed the boundary? Do not communicate with or listen to that spirit.
For more thorough instructions on any type of spirit communication, like, with your guides for instance, see Ted Andrew’s book, The Intercession of Spirits.
If you are personally fine with using your finite human body for Divination, then, all the more power to you.
What about Mediumship? Some Mediums, they use their body to communicate regularly with the spirit world. Mediums however, are trained professionals.
The choice of whether to limit communication with your body, is ultimately, up to you. And I do leave that choice to you, as I believe in empowerment and choice. But, I also believe in informed consent. With this article, you can make a more informed choice about how you are using your Beautiful Human Chariot for the next 60 years or however long we get the chance to live on this planet. It’s important to take care of our body, and that’s the choice and the practice that is up to you to decide.
I’LL TELL YOU WHAT I REALLY THINK
As you’ve probably figured out, I’m not a fan of New-Age-Divination-by-bodily-sensation. This whole trend has me thinking, that while some may think it’s a novel & cute idea to think that an eye twitch means ‘you are not seeing the situation clearly,’ it could also mean your eyes are tired and maybe go get your glasses checked.
As someone with a serious illness who reads Tarot, there are simply WAY better ways I can think of, to receive messages, than sending illnesses, diseases, and temporary bodily sensations to us.
Why? Because why short out your only computer that costs $1000, when the same message could’ve been received by an oracle card? WHY send you a disease or ailment, that can cause physical pain, actual disease processes that can harm you, cost you thousands of dollars in medical bills, pain, and even bankruptcy if it goes on long enough?
I can’t think of a worse way to receive messages than messing with our ‘vehicle’ of being present in this world – our body. Getting messages through the body isn’t novel, it isn’t cute. And it can be inefficient – possibly sidetracking you from your REAL work and purpose in this world, because now you have random plantar fasciitis for no reason.
Yes, I know that some people use muscle testing, and their body as a pendulum and all that – I’m so happy for you. Whatever. But I think the difference there – is you’ve specifically designated a space and time for muscle testing and/or using your body as a pendulum. You’ve said, ‘Okay, I’m going to go within right now and receive a message.’ You get calm, tune in, and ask your body the question. Great. Question over, you are done using the body as a vehicle for divination. You solicited that message. That's different than receiving random messages at inappropriate, inconvenient times, & via methods that are costly and/or painful. See the difference?
The problem becomes, when spirits, guides, God, or anyone else, has an open invitation to use your body 24/7. At any time, they can just pop in, and give you a calf ache, or vision loss, or nerve pain. Then this practice becomes NOT SO CUTE anymore. Then it becomes a real, actual problem.
Especially if you are intuitively Gifted, it becomes even more important to be very clear about this practice.
IF YOU MUST
If you really feel you must use your body to receive messages from Spirit, then at a minimum – put boundaries around the circumstances that it’s acceptable to be communicated with in this way. Simply meditate, pray, or go within in whatever way you do, and communicate the space and time it’s appropriate for ‘body messages.’ You can specify, ‘I only want messages through my body when I specifically state outloud that I’d like to receive messages through my body.’ Or, ‘In a client session.’ Or, ‘I love messages through my body, send me more!’ Whatever your deal is, state it clearly & be consistent with your rules.
And remember, DON’T FORGET TO CLOSE OUT YOUR SESSION!!! Once you’ve received the messages you needed, state to your guides, God, gods, spirits what have you, something to the effect of: ‘Thank you for this time, thank you for these messages, I am truly grateful to receive them. This session of body messages/Divination/etc is over now, do not send anymore messages through my body until I specifically ask and open another session. Thank you. Goodbye.’
FIND YOUR OWN TRUTH
This seems simple, yet, you’d be surprised how many New Agers subscribe to the ‘what is my body telling me right now’ theory, without consciously diving into the logic behind such practices.
This method of bodily divination, in my opinion, has been made popular by the author Louise Hay and her book, You Can Heal Your Life. This book has assigned ‘messages’ that the body is supposedly sending when a body part malfunctions.
While Louise Hay is another topic entirely, it’s important that we don’t simply take a theory we think works one way, and reverse the logic. Reversed logic isn’t necessarily correct logic. Reversed logic isn’t necessarily practical either.
I don’t think it’s practical or worth it to chance ‘shorting out’ our human body to get a simple message. It’s important to consciously discern what we are doing in life, rather than simply jumping on the New Age bandwagon of pop wisdom.
I agree that listening to one’s body, ala yoga class, has value. But simply put, you do NOT want Spirit to send you a BIG message, (or even 45 small ones) through your BODY. The body is not easy to fix, and it’s the ONLY body we have. We need to take care of it, not send it constant and random messages frying our senses. Overusing our ‘electrical’ system, is not wise. We need to treat our body like the temple it is, and simply receive our messages elsewhere through other Divination methods.
This is NOT because using the body for messages doesn’t work, but because it DOES WORK. You may not like what you’ve asked for, plain & simple.
